Gale’s Bioscope Show was opened prior to 1908. It had a seating capacity of 340 and was operated by Arthur John Gale. It was closed in December 1908 after a fire.

Renovations were carried out by the architectural firm Emden & Egan and it re-opened in July 1910 as a twin screen cinema with seating for 200 in each auditorium. The building was badly damaged by another fire in 1917, and was demolished.

A branch of Mark’s & Spencer’s store was built on the site. Today it is part of the Stratford Shopping Centre.
