The Avalon Theatre opened on Platteville’s Main Street in 1930. The Avalon Theatre lasted for almost six decades before closing in 1990. It was later acquired by Building Platteville, Inc., which restored the Avalon Theatre, and reopened it in 1994, as a three screen first-run house, as it remains today.
It is now part of the State Theatres chain, which also contains the Dodge Theatre in Dodgeville and the Grantland Theatre in Lancaster.

It does as the photo indicates have a great marquee. Unfortunately, my arrival time in Platteville didn’t coincide with the theatres open times. I can’t provide much information except that it’s still operating
The Avalon Theatre opened its doors on December 11, 1930 with Spencer Tracy in “Up The River” along with an unnamed Paramount Screen Song, the screen novelty “Pirates”, and a Fox Movietone Newsreel.
