The Coastland 2 opened its doors by Cobb Theatres on August 11, 1978 with Warren Beatty in “Heaven Can Wait” in Screen 1 and Goldie Hawn in “Foul Play” in Screen 2, featuring a total capacity of 575 seats and Christie projection. Its grand opening was sponsored by then-Top 40 radio station WLEQ-FM (back known as “96 Super Q”, now rock station WRXK-FM), and was first managed by Daniel Richardson.
The Coastland 2 has been a Cobb theater throughout its history, and closed for the final time on August 4, 1991 with Susan Sarandon in “Thelma & Louise” in Screen 1 and a double feature of Macaulay Culkin in “Home Alone” and Kurt Russell in “Backdraft” in Screen 2.
