The Central Mall opened without a theatre but when it expanded in 1973, Beall’s Department Store and an automated cinema were included. William G. Tracy did the architectural plan after a concept by United General Theaters fell through. Oakland Mini-Theaters of Michigan ran the theatre as well as a number of former United General locations in Michigan. The theatre launched January 5, 1974 with the film, “American Graffiti” starring Richard Dreyfuss. On August 8, 1975, the Kon-Tiki Theater was purchased by the Cobb Circuit. The Kon-Tiki Theater appears to have fulfilled a 10-year lease and closed on September 8, 1983 with the film, “Death Stalker” starring Rick Hill. In 1984, the Naples Players acquired the theatre for live plays.
