This theater must have been built sometime after March 1924, when the map shows a wooden printers shop located here. It may possibly have been the Grand Theatre, which is listed only in 1926. The 1931 and 1945 maps are not available online, which makes it hard to determine the exact timeline.
It was almost certainly the Plaza Theatre, which is listed in 1931, along with a Dickinson Theatre of the same capacity. The Plaza Theatre is listed as closed from 1932 onward, and by 1936, it appears as the Jayhawk Theatre, but still closed. The Jayhawk Theatre is still listed as closed in 1940, and likely never reopened.
The theatre had an attractive facade, vaguely Mediterranean, with white plaster, brick trim around the windows, and a green tile pent roof. The building was a long and narrow space, and there seems to have been room for a small balcony. Today it is in fair condition, with an unattractive ground floor. It is used as an insurance office.
