The 109 Cinemas Kawasaki located under the large roof on the 5th floor of Plaza East opened its doors on September 28, 2006 with 10 screens and 1,838 seats with 22 wheelchairs (with four in Screen 7 and two in the rest of the auditoriums).
This theater was notable because the 109 Cinemas Kawasaki was the first ever movie theater in Japan to have an IMAX Digital auditorium, which was introduced on June 19, 2009 inside the largest auditorium of the theater, Screen 7 with 422 general seats (plus 32 executive seats and four wheelchairs). On that same exact day, two other 109 Cinemas theaters, one in Ayame and the other in Minoh, introduced theirs within a few hours apart. The opening ceremony was attended by the president of Tokyu Recreation, which operates 109 Cinemas and the Japanese CEO of IMAX. Meanwhile outside of Screen 7, Screen 10 is the smallest with 62 general seats, while the rest of the auditoriums have ranging capacities of 75-333.
On November 23, 2018, IMAX Laser was introduced, marking it the first in the Kanto region and the second in Japan after Osaka’s 11-screen Expocity had theirs installed.
