The Toho Kanto Kogyo chain opened the Cine 6’s doors on March 25, 1988 featuring six screens under both Toho and Shochiku. Four more Toei and Milano screens were added around 1993 bringing a total to 10 screens.
After closing for renovations on July 16, 2004, the entire theater was renamed “TOHO Cinemas Funabashi Lalaport” and opened with only five screens. On October 30 of the same year, the remaining five screens were reopened and the theater was fully opened. This lasted until November 16, 2013, when it closed and relocated to the third floor of the West Building.
Shochiku and Toei withdrew from the company and it became the sole operator of the Toho group. Since the Tsudanuma Theatre Cine Park in the Tsudanuma Parco B Building closed on February 28, 2010, this was the remaining theater operating in Funabashi City.
The newer 10-screen TOHO Cinemas Funabashi Lalaport opened six days later on November 22, 2013 with 1,861 seats and 20 wheelchairs (two in each auditorium).
This was the first movie theater ever in Japan to have Dolby Atmos, which were installed inside the largest auditorium Screen 4 with 403 seats and TCX. Screen 1 is the smallest with 92 seats featuring MediaMation MX4D, and the rest have ranging capacities of 99-313.

The Funabashi Lalaport was also home to the first ever drive-in theater in Japan, it’ll have its own CT page soon.
During its early heyday, the Cine 6 originally had names in all six auditoriums, which were Funabashi Lalaport Toho (310 seats), Funabashi Lalaport Plaza (310 seats), Funabashi Lalaport Scala (310 seats), Lalaport Shochiku (99 seats), Lalaport Central 1 (132 seats), and Lalaport Central 2 (133 seats).
In July 1992, the theater was expanded to eight screens after two more auditoriums (LaLaport Toei [180 seats] and LaLaport Milano [110 seats]) were added, and was renamed LaLaport Cinema 8. On December 7, 1996, two more auditoriums (LaLaport Cine 1 [95 seats] and LaLaport Cine 2 [145 seats]) were added, bringing a total to 10 screens, and was renamed LaLaport Cinema 10.
On January 31, 2004, the LaLaport Shochiku, the LaLaport Central 1, and LaLaport Central 2 auditoriums closed, and the whole theater was renamed the TOHO Cinema Lalaport Funabashi on July 16, 2004.
