This was the first of two Longwood Theatre’s to operate in St. Louis. It opened in 1926. For a while it was unable to convert to sound and was closed in 1930. Eventually sound equipment was installed, and it reopened in 1932.

On March 17, 1938 it was taken over by new management and they immediately proposed plans to build a New Longford Theatre next door at 9415 South Broadway. That opened on July 22, 1938 and the Longford Theatre (#1) was closed.

The Longford Theatre (#2) has its own page on Cinema Treasures.
