Designed by the Nichisho Design Corporation Limited, the Matsubara City Cultural Center (or the Matsubara City Cultural Hall) is a 543-seat multi-purpose cultural theater located in the Taijo side of Matsubara City in Osaka, opening on October 1, 1977.
Shortly before its grand opening when the building was in its final touches of construction, the Matsubara City Cultural Center Ordinance was enacted as Ordinance No. 24 on September 19, 1977.
The Matsubara City Cultural Center is a primary venue for concerts, live performances, lectures, and even a recording studio for television shows. However, it also rarely screens movies from time-to-time throughout its history.
- For example, when Super Mario Brothers immediately received massive popularity in Japan alone, the popular 60-minute Shochiku-Fuji anime matinee, “Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!”, was screened at the Matsubara City Cultural Center for a while throughout much of mid-1986.
On April 11, 2013, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake rocked Osaka injuring 24 people. Despite none-to-little damage was reported, resistance reinforcement work were forced to carry out.
