Wonderland Theatre

This small theater appears on the 1923 Sanborn. It was located in a one story brick building constructed sometime after 1910.

It was still open in 1927, but had closed by 1928 when the Liberty Theatre (later Madera Theatre) opened in a much larger building to the west. This entire section of the block was demolished by the 1960’s and replaced with a bank, which is now closed and vacant.

The theaters listed at Madera in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory were called the Royal and the Pastime. The latter was mentioned in The Billboard in January, 1911. As there is no clue where they were located, either name might have been an aka for the house that became the Wonderland.
