The Strand Theatre was opened in 1920, on a site previously occupied by a tiny shack built in 1910 and housing a barber’s shop. The shack was removed to another site. The Strand Theatre was built for Fred & Francis Thompson and was leased by John Cribble. It was destroyed by fire in 1933.
The Rex Theatre was built on the site and opened in 1935 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
