Yreka history notes the Peters & Dewitt building opened in 1898 and was designed by G.W. Cooper. The City of Yreka historical marker says in 1904 Godfrey Peters converted the east half of the building into a theatre.
Movies and Lodge Rooms were listed on Sanborn Maps 1908 at Miner Street and Oregon Street, and by 1927 the maps updated the location to 330 Miner Street.
Film Daily Year Book 1926-34 lists Peters Theatre, seating 400; 1935-1939, the Miner Theatre; 1940-48 the Shasta Theatre; In 1949 it was again the Miner Theatre, seating 351.
The building was taken over by the Elks lodge in 1960 and the former theater space now serves as a banquet hall.
