According to the Dunsmuir News, June 30, 1922, the Club Theatre was owned by the Weed Lumber Company and opened about eleven years ago. Sunday shows would be discontinued because R.A. Long, chairman of the board of directors, is known to be a strong advocate of a strict Sunday observance.

The Club Theatre was on Sanborn Maps 1928, near Tebbe Street, across from the train depot. Film Daily Year Book 1926 list the Club Theatre with 350 seats and its movie reviews were published in Moving Picture World through 1928. According to the Dunsmuir News, September 1, 1922, the Club Theatre was one of five area theatres participating in the annual Paramount Pictures Week.

Shasta Stories Facebook has two exterior photographs of the Club Theatre, one from 1914 picturing projectionist Mr. Duncan and doorman Ray Powell. Shown is a poster of the movie “For The Man She Loved”, from 1913. Shasta Stories Facebook also has a digitized 8mm film from 1926, which shows people in the auditorium and balcony.

The old Club Theatre was last mentioned in the Dunsmuir News on January 19, 1961, as the voting place where Weed was voted in to become a city.

The location was in today’s restored Weed Mercantile Mall, which calls it the oldest building in Weed, built in 1901.
