This early theatre appears on the 1911 Sanborn, in an old two-story brick storefront that had been constructed between 1885 and 1889. The 1905 map calls this the Moore Block. It shows the ground floor vacant, although a lodge hall was located on the second floor (most likely the Knights of Pythias).
Since Holton was not very large, and a superior purpose-built theatre was located only a block away, this was not a success, and the 1922 map shows a furniture store here.
The building today is in decent shape, and is used as a Ginger Snips Beauty Salon. Note that the historical address jumped around, and was variously listed as 121A and 117.

At least in its early years the Gem appears to have operated seasonally. This is from the September 26, 1912 issue of The Holton Recorder: “The Gem picture house has been opened for the winter season. The house has been cleaned and renovated and will show fine [unreadable] of pictures this fall.”
