Lomo Theatre

Charles Lohmann and Henry Paul Mollere got into film exhibition with a single theater in Hammond, Louisiana. They opted to buy theatres in Mississippi thereafter in 1910/1911 in Hattiesburg, Laurel, Jackson, Vicksburg, Natchez, Brookhaven and here in McComb. The McComb Lomo Theatre’s address was at 226 Main Street and its auditorium had 180 seats. William Whitmann of New Orleans was brought in by Lohmann to run the theatre.

The Lomo Theatre Circuit went bankrupt in 1914 and sold for just $670 at auction. But this Lomo Theatre would continue under the watch of new owner J.E. “Jake” Alford. When the Solomon Brothers opened the Strand Theatre in 1921, the Lomo Theatre was closed permanently. The location would become the first of two homes for a long-running furniture store, the Home Furniture Company. Alford would become more well-known for being the opening manager of the State Theatre in downtown upon its launch May 27, 1927. The Main Street building housing the former Lomo Theatre is still in use in the 2020’s for other purposes.
