Modernisation & total rebuild of former Star Theatre in 1974 by independent exhibitor Ray Melrose to serve the southern gateway city (35km south of Auckland cbd) incorporating the same upmarket features rolled out at Manurewa (10km north): unique individual seating, wall to wall luxurious carpet & floor to ceiling orange drapes. Sold to indie exhibitor & film distributor Ralph Carter in 1978, acquired by Kerridge-Odeon in 1983 then merged into South Auckland Cinemas in 1985 - a joint venture with Skyline Cinemas (KO & Amalgamated Theatres), Alan Meekings & Graeme Edwards. Closed 1986 and the building in 2024 is now mixed use retail & residential.
