Darvel Town Hall

Located in Darvel, East Ayrshire which was the birthplace on 6th August 1881 of Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin. The Town Hall was built in 1905 and was designed by architect Thomas Henry Smith. It was operating as the Town Hall Picture Hall by 1927. It had a 20ft wide proscenium. In the late-1920’s it was equipped with a Duosonic sound system. It was still open in 1963, but had closed by 1966.

The Town Hall building is Listed Grade B and is in use as a council run community centre and houses the annual Darvel Music Festival, and flower shows, dances etc.
