According to the Goldthwaite Eagle newspaper, an early open air theatre in Goldthwaite showed the first movie film in the town. The theatre was called “The Air Dome Theatre” and was opened in the spring of 1912. The theatre owners were Milton Cline and his son, William Cline. Benches were built for people to sit upon and view the silent movies in the open breezes. In September 1912, the newspaper gave the location as being on the east side of the railroad, opposite the old depot site. The theatre’s location from these directions would have been on Fisher Street. The last time the Air Dome Theatre was mentioned as being in operation in the newspaper was in 1916. In the book, “The Way it Was” which records the history of Goldthwaite, Hartal Blackwell mentions that “The Air Dome Theatre” was the first theatre in Goldthwaite.
