The Fulton Theatre opened on January 26, 1928 as a single screen theatre seating 750 in the orchestra level and 250 in the balcony level. It ran a long life as an independent theatre. On February 21, 1948 it became part of the Commonwealth Amusement chain. In 1979 B & B theatres bought the theatre and converted the balcony into a second theatre. They renamed it the Fulton Cinema. The front facade has an arched top in the center of the building with columns running down to the new marquee that the B & B installed. There are two store fronts, one on each side of the entrance to the theatre but not rented. They seem to be used by the theatre. B & B did a great job of restoring the theatre a small town movie palace. They closed the theatre in June 2006 when they opened the Fulton Cinema 8.

Bad news in October 1947, from Boxoffice magazine:

FULTON, MO.-Adult prices have been boosted 5 to 10 cents for night and Sunday shows at the Fulton Theater, owned by Sol Bank. Admission to the main floor was boosted from 35 to 40 cents and in the balcony from 25 to 35 cents.

The official web site link above is dead, and the theater no longer appears in the listings of B&B Theatres. Its address is now listed as the location of the Callaway Arts Council. I can’t find a web site for the council, but this page of a local web site lists it, and says that the council’s goal is to preserve the theater as a performing arts center, and that they have already presented a few events there.

I can’t find any listings of upcoming events, though, so the theater must be only intermittently active for now. The house is being referred to as the “Historic Fulton Theater” (with the “er” spelling) on a number of web sites. That’s going to be a bit confusing for Internet searchers, as the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is often referred to on the web as the Historic Fulton Theatre.

Status should be closed/renovating. In 2005, the theatre was donated to the Callaway Arts Council. Now renamed the Brick District Playhouse, renovation began in 2015 and continues today.

I don’t know if they’ve opened yet, but the interior had nothing left inside when I went in last year. The lobby is now a coffee/sandwich place.

This is the current website: http://thebrickdistrictplayhouse.com/ Their Facebook page shows a finished theatre interior with tables set up like a dinner theatre and people watching a performance.

There is also a bricktown website directly associated with the Fulton theater. It present a rich history with many pictures.
