Cinema 356 was opened as a single screen on July 3, 1974 with Burt Lancaster in “The Midnight Man”. In the 1980’s it became a quad. The aging Cinema 356 was demolished when a new 10-screen megaplex opened in 2002.
The project was spearheaded by the former owner of the four-screen Cinema 356, who built a new megaplex with stadium seating along with digital sound, large screens and the latest projection technology.
Initial plans had called for an upgrade for the Cinema 356, but developers realized it would be cheaper to build an entirely new building and raze the old theater.

Too bad the old building could not be saved, Ten Screens were added in a new theatre in a new location,wouldn’t surprize me if it had already closed.
The Cinema 356 actually opened on July 3, 1974. The first film to play there was “The Midnight Man”, a Universal mystery with Burt Lancaster and Susan Clark. I obtained this information from microfilms of The Butler Eagle at the Butler Area Public Library.
356 was a single screen theater until the mid-80s when it became a quad.
