Located in the Colonia Xoco district of Mexico City, near to the metro station Estacion Metro Coyoacon. The Cineteca Nacional opened on 17th November 1974 with 3-screens. It was destroyed by fire in 1982.
It was rebuilt and opened in 1984 with 10-screens that have a total of 2,295-seats. There is also an open air screen which has 750-seats.
The Cineteca Nacional contains the National Film Archive and the Filminstitut of Mexico. The archive is home to 15,000 film titles with 50,000 reels of film and 330,000 artifact which are related to cinematic history.
In 2011 the cinema complex was renovated.
