Carlton Cinema

Located in Kirkcaldy, Fifeshire, at the corner of Park Road and St Clair Street. The independently operated Carlton Cinema opened in 1937. It was equipped with a RCA sound system and had a 52ft wide proscenium. The Beatles played here on 6th October 1963, supported by Houston Wells & The Fortunes. On 10th November 1963 Del Shannon, Gerry & The Pacemakers & The Fourmost played here. On 24th November 1963 The Searchers, Mark Wynter & Eden Kane played here. It had closed as a cinema by the end of 1963 and was converted into a bingo club.

It was destroyed by a fire in 1972 and the bingo club operation was transferred to the Raith Cinema.

MMM was looking at all the cinemas that have been demolished or closed down in Kirkcaldy and most of them seem to have been destroyed by fire seems unusual and unlucky that Kirkcaldy had that many fires in cinemas or cinemas that converted to bingo halls?
