Odeum-Lichtspiele

Located in the east of the city center district of Altstadt-Spandau at the address Potsdammer Strasse 6. In 1910 the ballroom of the Hotel Roter Adler was converted into the Kinotheater Roter Adler. A Kinematoskope and a Concert Riesen Phonoteroskop were installed The cinema was operated by B. Jaeschke. In 1920 it was re-named Neues Stadttheater zu Spandau and live performances and movie screenings took place. Around that time the Decla Bioskop cinema chain took over the operation. In 1924 it was taken over by the Ufa Theater AG chain and it was re-named Ufa Filmtheater.

In 1927 it was re-named Odeum-Lichspiele. In 1930 a Tobis sound system was installed. In 1935 the Vereinigte Lichtspiele GmbH took over the operation. In 1939 the street address was changed to Carl-Schurz-Strasse 22-24. In 1940 Carl Cartum took over. The cinema was closed after 1941 due to wartime conditions.

It was re-opened in 1949. In 1959 a CinemaScope screen was added and Erko IV projectors were installed. The Odeum Lichtspiele was closed on 31st March 1963 and it was demolished.

In 1964 the department store Hertie Spandau was built and opened on the site of the former cinema. The department store was later re-named Karstadt.
