Located in the northwest Berlin district of Spandau. The Spandauer Lichtspiele was a shop conversion which opened in 1911. In 1923 it was improved and enlarged becoming the Film-Palast. It was soon re-named Decla-Lichtspiele. In 1932 it became the Ufa Spandau and in 1936 it became the Havel Lichtspiele.
It became a military cinema from 1946 operated by the Army Kinema Corps and renamed Havel Cinema. In 1955 it was completely reconstructed to the plans of architect Heinz Kroh and re-opened in 1955 as a public cinema as the 786-seat Aladin-Filmtheater. It was equipped with CinemaScope and had a ‘Sonora-Gigant’ screen measuring 10.5 metres x 4.5 metres. The projectors were Philips FP6 and there was Philips 4-track stereo amplification. The cinema was closed on 3rd February 1969 due to dwindling audiences and it was converted into a supermarket.
When the supermarket closed sometime after 1995 the auditorium was demolished, with only the facade remaining.
The 5-screen Kino Center Spandau was built and opened on the site, using the original facade. With a total seating capacity of 1,010-seats. Screen 1:258-seats, Screen 2:294-seats, Screen 3:159-seats, Screen 4:135-seats and Screen 5:164-seats. Operated by Cineplex-Germany It now operates as the Spandauer Film Theater.
