Located in the Newmarket district, to the south of the city centre. From a view on Broadway, through the lobby, and into the auditoriums, Event Cinemas celebrated the Art Deco movie palaces of yesteryear.
Formerly named SkyCity Broadway Cinemas, Amalgamated Holdings (now Event Cinemas) took over operations in January 2010. SkyCity Entertainment, mainly a hotel, casino, and leisure business sold all of its cinemas to Amalgamated, which were then renamed.
In 2013 the eight-screen cinema underwent a complete remodel. The design firm Decorum noted “We drew design inspiration from 20th century 42nd street theatres and the old 19th century Parisian Cinemas interiors.
The cinema included dining, bar, and a dedicated event room.
It was closed in June 2020 and has become a church.

The Event Cinemas Broadway closed in June 2020. One of the final films was “Bill and Ted Face the Music”, starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. At first the closure was said to be only temporary - this was during the Covid pandemic - but it never re-opened. The building is now used by Equippers Church.
