Located in the south of the City Centre in the Grafton district bordering with Newton. The Alhambra Theatre was opened in 1913. It was later renamed Grafton Theatre. It was taken over by Amalgamated theatres in the late-1930’s and renamed Tivoli Theatre. Amalgamated still operated it until it closed in the early-1960’s. It was converted into a ballroom.
It has since been demolished and a multi-story car park has been built on the site.

The early history of this theatre depends upon where you look. The one dates the opening as the Tivoli in 1910. Then as the Star in 1913 and Alhambra in 1914.
Conversion to a ballroom was easy since the floor was always flat.
