Ritz Theatre

The Cozy Theatre was Minneapolis' longest-running movie theatre. The operators had purchased the Reel Theatre effective January 1, 1924 and began work on a new movie house for the town. They opened by the Fall of 1924 as the Cozy Theatre. On November 27, 1929, the Cozy Theatre switched to sound movies to remain relevant.

Under new owner Harry Musgrave, the theatre was completely updated closing briefly in 1935 to install 300 new seats, new sound system, refreshed lobby, signage and carpeting. Its name was changed to the Ritz Theatre. The theatre operated through World War II and reduces to part time operation. Mentions in the trade press end in 1955 which may have closed after its lease ended. It possibly closed in 1963.

The address is wrong, and has the directions of the streets confounded. The correct address is likely 321 W 2nd. The building appears to be one of those semi-derelict structures that rural folks use to store junk. It has a horrible sheet metal facade. Looks like it was constructed out of concrete ‘brick’.
