The original Reel Electric Theatre was launched on January 27, 1913 by one of the pioneering women in Kansas film exhibition, Mrs. A.J. Thrun on W. 2nd Street in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. Even though the building was newly built, it wasn’t designed as a theatre. The summer ventilation that first year of operation proved challenging and before the warm weather hit, Thrun looked for a new location.
A year later, the Reel Electric Theatre moved to a new location on W. 2nd Street with its grand opening on June 18, 1914. It mentioned the installation of large fans to cool the auditorium. During its lifecycle, the theatre’s name was shortened to the Reel Theatre. In December of 1923, the theatre was sold to a new operator who began looking for a new location was found to build a more modern movie theatre. The Reel Theatre shut down and was replaced by the Cozy Theatre which became the Ritz Theatre.

Last map available online is 1912. A new building likely would have been on the western half of the block between Ottawa and Concord, or possibly somewhere on the block between Sheridan and Rock (this block seems the most likely location for the replacement theater).
The E 2nd St address must be wrong. All businesses are on W 2nd, E 2nd starts at Rock and is all residential.
