Two popular 1970’s films, “Network” and “Freaky Friday” were on the schedule when the West I & II Theatre was opened by Central States Theatres March 30, 1977. This was the heyday of American mall building and along with the West Theatre and 42 stores, West Burlington’s employment ranks were swelled by 800.

According to a May 1994 article in the Burlington Hawk Eye, construction was to begin on a new theatre next to J.C. Penney. The Mall 6 opened December 15, 1994, with a seating capacity of 1,200. The two largest auditoriums seated 300 while the smallest seated 170. It was noted in the Hawk Eye that the theatre would have the ability to screen popular films on a second screen, albeit with a 30 second delay. Some of the opening films were “Dumb and Dumber”, “The Lion King”, and "Star Trek Generations”.

In June 2002 Cinema Entertainment Corp. purchased the Mall 6 and 15 other Central States Theatres locations in Iowa and Nebraska and by Christmas season 2002 it had become the Mall 8.

The theatre continued doing good business and adding periodic upgrades such as 3D to one screen in May 2009.

The Mall 8, on the west side of the mall with an outside entrance, closed December 6, 2011. The new Westland Mall 10, on the east side of the mall, had an inside entrance, an advantage for inclement weather. It was noted that the ticketing and computers were to be moved to the new theatre.
