The Star Theatre opened March 3, 1938 with Carol Lombard in “True Confession”. It shared its building with a pool hall. It closed in the late-1960’s, but was reopened in 1979, remaining in operation for about three years.
The building was spruced up in 2000 to appear in the movie “My Dog Skip” but the theatre remained closed. In 2008, heavy rains caused a partial collapse of the roof. One attempt to restore the building was ended by a fire in October, 2016.
Nevertheless, local citizens continue to work toward the repair and reopening of the theatre through The Star Theater & Civic Auditorium Restoration Committee.
