Located in Cardington, southeast of Bedford, Bedfordshire. The village is famous for its tall Airship Sheds which became part of the Royal Air Force Base. On the RAF base a smaller hanger shaped building was converted into the 900-seat Astra Cinema. It also hosted variety shows. Adjoining the building was a dance hall and the general public were allowed onto the base in evenings for their entertainment.

In the mid-1950’s the Astra Cinema was equipped with CinemaScope and a Kalee projection & sound equipment. Today one of the huge Airship Sheds is in use as a film studio. The fate of the Astra Cinema is unknown.
