A cinema was built inside the Grade II Listed section of the old BBC(British Broadcasting Corporation) Television Centre building(opened June 29, 1960 and closed on 31st March 2013). The Electric Cinema White City was opened in 2019 and is operated by the same operators as the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill (Portobello Road). It is in the right hand side of the building in the basement. Seating capacities are:Screen 1 30, Screen 2: 32 & Screen 3: 27 One screen is for the exclusive use of Soho House Hotel Group members. All screens are equipped with 4K Laser phosphur projectors, Dolby Atmos sound and ExpanD3D.

Rest of the building that wasn’t demolished was converted in housing, bars, restaurants, and three TV studios (there used to be twelve) to be re-used and leased out to independent programme producers. The Helios statue (by sculpture T.B. Huxley-Jones) in the forecourt of the building is also Grade II Listed and restored also along with the remaining buildings.

The first BBC staff moved into the Scenery Block in 1953. The offical opening was on 29/6/1960. Television Centre was seen been blown up(not for real) in an episode of the television series “The Goodies”(series 2, episode 18, Gender educagion). The front of the building(and possibly the inside?) was used the the television series “An Adventure in Space and Time” about the early beginings of the television series “Doctor Who” which used to be filmed in Television Centre(studo recordings). It was the last programme filmed before the partital demolition and resoration of Television Centre. The inside(and possibly the outside?) of Television was seen in one of the extras on the “Doctor who” dvd “The Visitation”(The Television Centre of the Universe – part 1). The Television Centre of the Universe – part 2 is an extra on the Doctor Who" dvd of “The Underwater Menace”. The gardens outside Television Centre used by the Television prograame “Blue Peter” is still there(also heritage listed i think?).

Television Centre is in the shape of a question mark when seen from the air.
