Located in Tramore, County Waterford at the coner of Market Street and Main Street. The Rex Cinema was opened 24th September 1945 with Jon Hall & Maria Montez in “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”. It was operated by Amalgamated Entertainments. It initially had a RCA sound system, but this was later replaced by a Western Electric(WE) sound system. By the 1960’s it was operated by the Breen Circuit.
The Rex Cinema was closed on March 14, 1971 with Richard Greene in “Sword of Sherwood Forest” & Rosalind Russell in “Where Angels Go Trouble Follows!”. It was taken over by an independent operator and re-opened, but was finally closed on 19th December 1977 with John Wayne in “Red River”. The building was put up ‘For Sale’. It is now in retail use.
