Located in the Grand Boulevards district in the north of the city centre. Originally at this address was the Café de Paris which opened in 1872. It later became the Theatre of Novelties. A new building was built on the site which opened on May 21, 1915 as the Cinema des Noubert Palace. On 8th February 1929 the 1,000-seat Aubert-Palace opened with Al Jolson in “The Jazz Singer” which played at this cinema for almost a year.
In 1967 it was re-modelled to the plans of architect George Peynet, and it re-opened as the Lumiere Gaumont on 27th June 1967. Now with 710 seats (550 in the orchestra & 160 in the balcony) and a modern style of decoration, plain & simple which was the vogue in the 1960’s. It was converted into a three screen cinema in the early-1980’s, and was closed in 1988.
