The Hampshire town of Hayling Island is situated between Portsmouth and Langstone Harbours, to the south of Havant.
Around 1928 the Savoy Cinema was built by the Savoy Cinema Company Ltd. (Its address was given in trade directories as Church Road, whereas it was actually situated on St. Mary’s Road, just up from the junction with Church Road.)
By 1935 Frank Parmiter was in charge. He remained as proprietor/manager for many years, possibly until closure.
It is not known when the Savoy Cinema closed (it was listed in the 1954 Kinematograph Year Book), but had gone from listings by 1963.
The building has been in use as a Royal Mail sorting office for many years.

Projection room is still there, not possible to see in this angle of the photo. Unable to access as boarded up. Would be great to get a photo as even the postal staff would like to know what is in there. Richard Coates
