The State Theatre was opened prior to 1934. By 1941 it was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary John Friedl. It was still open in 1952, but had closed by 1955.

The finding aid for the Liebenberg & Kaplan papers indicate that the firm did work for the State Theatre in Watertown twice, first in 1937 and again in 1941.
