The Viewway Drive-In opened on 24th September 1958 with “Magnificent Matador”, and “Don’t Trust Your Husband”. Opening night was invitation only, the following night was for the general public(same programme). The Viewway Drive-In closed on 1st August 1999. The ramps are still there(except for a little of the back corner(Oswald Street side) taken up a store(Harvey Norman?), behind the hardtop Orana Cinemas, and (possibly the ticket booth next to the cinema?).

There is one lightstand still remaining on the drive-in site!
The drive-in was called Viewway it’s entire life, even though the Way drive-in group chain no longer existed in it’s last few years of operation.
The site(after closure) was brought to build a supermarket(Safeway), but seems never to have been built(so far).
The entrance road is still there too. Exit road unknown? The ticket booth is possibly demolished(or incorporated into the Orana Cinemas building?)?
