The 2,800-seat Carmike Chantilly 13 opened on August 8, 2014, to benefit the local United Way, with the regular schedule beginning the next day.
The theater includes Carmike’s proprietary BigD auditorium with an 81-foot screen and 580 seats. Carmike notes: “To further enhance the premium experience, Carmike’s customized BigD system is tuned to a 7.1 speaker array with 16 channels, upgradeable to 11.1 surround sound. This QSC digital audio system is a true revolution in sound technology, with digital audio processing supported by quad-amplified, 4-way speakers, and 21-inch subwoofers. The BigD is powered by a cutting-edge Christie Brilliant 3-D flash projector, which also presents 2-D entertainment. The end result is a light output of 30,000 lumens, creating a picture quality with noticeably higher resolution than HD". The theater has the same technical specifications, including number of seats, as Carmike’s Tiger 13, which opened in Opelika on May 1, 2014.
The theater has an expanded menu, which includes hamburgers, pizza, chicken tenders, and beer and wine for the over 21 crowd. At the time of the Chantilly opening Carmike had 253 theaters in 37 states.
Last operated by NewVision Theatres it was closed on March 16, 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The closure was made permanent on July 13, 2020 when NewVision Theatres went out of business. It was taken over by AMC and reopened on August 6, 2021 as the AMC Classic Chantilly 13.
