Located in the northeast Manchester suburb of Newton Heath. The Ceylon Picture House was built on the site of the Congregational Church and opened 20th March 1939, replacing the former Ceylon Picture House on Ceylon Street at the rear, which became a dance hall. Designed in a Streamline Moderne style by architect Henry F. Elder, seating was provided for 808 in the stalls and 150 in the circle. The Ceylon Picture House was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.
It was closed in November 1960 with Tommy Steele in “Tommy the Toreador” and “Up in Smoke”. It was converted into a sporting club then became a furniture showroom. In 1964 it became a warehouse, and in 2014 it is used by Manchester Plumbing Supplies.
