Located in the suburb of Moston, 3 miles north east of Manchester City Centre. The Moston Imperial Palace was opened in 1920. In 1930 it had a Western Electric (WE) sound system. CinemaScope was installed in the mid-1950’s but it closed in 1959 with “The Cruel Sea” starring Jack Hawkins, made in 1953.
It became the MIP Market, which still operates today owned by the same family as cinema days. The projection box was moved upstairs for ‘scope; most of equipment was sold to Super Cinema Stockport. The pay-box is still visible in a hairdressing salon.
