The same committee that updated the Russell Dream Theater is looking to update and re-open the Sky-Vu Theater Drive in. It is going to take a few years, but that is the goal.
I have an old movie poster, listing 4 movies from this drive in.sun, mon, tues [july 17-19] the rare breed with james stewart. july20 to july22 , the guns of navarone ,july 23 was a double feature the family jewels with jerry lewis and invitation to a gunfight with yul Brynner. does anyone know when it closed or better yet what year this poster is from.navarone was 1960 and the rare breed was mid to late 60`s, so I guess there were re-releases.
The Salina (KS) Journal, Aug. 2, 2007: “Dean Lavern Zimmerman, 90, Lakewood, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007. Mr. Zimmerman was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Russell, Kan. He owned and operated the Sky Vue Drive-In theater for 35 years.”
Same drive-in? Showmen’s Trade Review, Sept. 3, 1949: “Walter Lambader is readying his new drive-in at Russell, Kans., for an opening next month. It will hold about 350 cars."
