According the Boller Brothers records the Mecca Theatre opened in April 1936. This was one of two theatres in Russell created by the Boller Brothers, the other being the Dream Theatre which is still in operation today. The Mecca Theatre was located just two blocks from the Dream Theatre, which had opened in 1934.
The Mecca Theatre was located on N. Main Street at E. 8th Street. I couldn’t find when the Meccca Theatre closed (it was still open in 1950) but the building is still standing today in use as a shopping mall.

Description needs to be corrected. This is not at 9th, it’s three lots north of 8th. This contributor is obsessed with putting things at corners, and gets them wrong all the time. Of course, the Dream opening date is wrong too. It opened in 1924. If Boller did the remodel after the fire, that wasn’t until 1947.
