Listed in the 1955 edition of Theatre Catalog as being located in Island Heights. Located off Highway 37 at Coolidge Avenue, the Bay Drive-In opened in July 1949 with James Stewart in “The Stratton Story”. It had a car capacity of 300 cars. It was opened by Ed Brown and operated by the Liggett-Florin Booking Agency from New York. Eventually the car capacity was increased to 650. In 1958, the Triangle Theatre Service was listed as the buying and booking service for the theatre. In 1963, Walter Reade Theatres took over the operations of the drive-in. The Bay Drive-In remained open until the mid-1970’s when it finally closed. It was demolished and it is now residential housing on the site.
