Regal Cinema

Located in Birchington-on-Sea, Kent. The Public Hall Cinema was opened on 24th October 1910. It had a tiny entrance, sandwiched between shops, at the rear of which was the auditorium, which had a rear projection system.

From August to November 1918 it was known as the Princess Cinema, and then was renamed Select Cinema, which lasted until September 1933. It then became the Regent Cinema, by which time it had been equipped with a Kalee sound system.

On 28th January 1936, it was re-named Ritz Cinema and this was its longest operating name. A new projection box was built and for many years it was operated by Winfield Cinemas of the Carlton Cinema, Westgate on Sea. The Ritz Cinema operated until 9th April 1958. It was re-named for the final time as the Regal Cinema, and was closed on 14th October 1961.

Converted into a bingo club, it was later in use as a nightclub named Trader Pinks, then Sander’s Cabaret Club, and then a snooker hall & bingo club, known as the Birchington Club.

Since around 2010 it has been occupied by The Cornerstone Church.
