Cross Creek Mall Cinemas I-II-III

Open to great fanfare on February 28, 1975, the Cross Creek Mall Cinemas was the second theatre in the state to open under General Cinema Corporation which had theatres located in the greater Charlotte area, and later on General Cinema would expand its operations in other cities like Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Raleigh. At the time of its opening, the Cross Creek Mall Cinemas became the first General Cinema venture in Eastern North Carolina and the first venture in the greater Fayetteville and Cumberland County market which about the same time the Cross Creek Mall was opening as one of the largest indoor shopping centers East of Raleigh.

All auditoriums were equipped with the latest widescreen projection with luxurious push back seating, a large concession stand, a smoking lounge and an art gallery. The opening attractions for the grand opening of the Cross Creek Mall Cinemas were “The Towering Inferno”, “Harry and Tonto” and “The Stepford Wives”. It also had the privilege of first-run exclusives for the Fayetteville area of select movies, among them the opening of “Star Wars” on June 17, 1977.

The theatre became the place to go to see some of Hollywood’s best until General Cinema’s bankruptcy closed the Cross Creek Mall Cinemas on January 23, 2001.
