The Theatre Lairet was opened by Famous Players partner United Theatres/Cinémas Unis on March 26, 1948 with Betty Grable in “Mother Wore Tights”. There were 842 seats in the single-screen house. It was closed in 1970.
On August 5, 1977, the theatre was sold to Bessette & Blanchard, which renamed it La Boite a Films and reduced seating to 810. It was renamed again to Cinéma Lumière in 1982, then closed its doors in 1983. It has since been renovated for retail.

La Boite a Films were also opened in Montreal and several locations in the Richleau valley. Bessette & Blanchard was based in St. Jean Sur Richleau.
