Located in the west Berkshire town of Newbury. The Regal Cinema was built by the small independent Regal circuit which operated in the Home Counties. It opened in 1931. It was equipped with a Western Electric sound system, and had a cafe for the convenience of its patrons.
The Regal Cinema was taken over by the Union Cinemas circuit in 1933, and they were taken over by the Associated British Cinemas(ABC) chain in October 1937.
ABC closed the Regal Cinema on 20th April 1963. It was demolished and offices were built on the site.

The carpenter employed on this project was the father of Joan Booker, author of A Newbury Childhood. He and his young daughter had two free tickets and Joan was also the sad witness to the Regal’s eventual demolition.
