Built around 1912 the Metropolitan Theatre operated until 1918, when it was renamed Venus Theatre. The Venus Theatre was closed in 1924.
It was reopened as the New Grand Theatre in 1927, and operated until 1939. It was one of four significant theatres in the Beale Street area. The Daisy Theatre still stands on the south side of Beale Street and the other three face it approximately on the north side of the same block. The pair of theatres seen in a vintage photograph shuffled names several times with the larger theatre finally being known as the Grand Theatre. The arched top of the smaller theatre’s façade is identical to the Daisy Theatre across the street.
