Built in 1917, the Grand Theatre was one of four significant theatres in the Beale Street area. The Daisy Theatre stood on the south side of Beale Street and the other three theatres faced it approximately on the north side of the same block. The smaller theatre was known as the Grand Theatre from 1917 to 1926, and again from 1931 to 1932. It was demolished in 1942 and a new Grand Theatre was built on the site. Its' building still stands today.

This webpage has photos and old advertisements as well comments on the history of the Grand/Venus/Metropolitan. It is a bit confusing as to which theater was named what and when.

This image was used on the cover of an edition of Memphis Blues by W. C. Handy which commemorated the dedication of Handy Park on Beale in 1931.
I have revised the history of both of these theatres after doing some cross-researching and unraveling.
The January 4, 1941 issue of Showmen’s Trade Review reported that demolition of the Grand Theatre in Memphis had begun, making way for a new theater to be built at 332 Beale Street. That project was the house that would be known as the New Daisy Theatre.
