Located in the small Hertfordshire town of Sawbridgeworth. The Sawbridgeworth Cinema was opened on 5th February 1914. It had an attractive facade, which was illuminated at night by over 70 light bulbs. All seating was on a single level.
The Sawbridgeworth Cinema was closed on 2nd May 1953 with “The Sound Barrier” directed by David Lean. The building was put up ‘For Sale’ with suggested uses being light industrial or a warehouse. It was purchased by the Catholic church and converted into the Catholic Church of the Most Holy Redeemer. The original attractive facade has been removed, leaving a plain frontage.
